seems like there were 2 or 3 different -but related - songs in every song on this album. the man was just exploding with ideas and mostly all were brilliant.

Yes. These words are surely on a par with those created by WW1 poets like Wilfred Owen. Albeit not by a man who had been there, but who had a great imagination. Accompanied by a great 60's soundtrack, this is just great. 'Some Mothers son' is very poignant. Woudl love to have known what Harry Patch thought of these songs, or at least the lyrics.

this was a concept album that was originally written to be a soundtrack for a play, but then the play was cancelled. But the Kinks went ahead with the album anyways.

very powerful anti-war song, anti-military....can't decide whether it's more potent than "Some Mother's Son" or not, but both are just outstanding.
This album is just criminally underrated.

Incredible album, there just weren't many other bands with such socially conscience lyrics out there at the time, The Kinks are amazing.
